Since the last release from 'The Falconz' in 2004, I have finally got my shit together and released my debut solo EP in 2009. Long time coming? - yes. Worth the wait? - Of course it is. Six tracks that I narrowed down from an evergrowing collection of songs I have written.
It was recorded in August 2009 over 3 days with my buddies Michael Hall (Drums, Vocals) and Carl Sutton (Guitar, Vocals).
'Last Drinks' is basically an ode to myself. I like to think of myself as an ever-turning wheel of re-invention. Will it ever be Last Drinks? Doubt it...
'Your Favourite Song' was written at my good friend Stu's house. We were hanging out together but not really paying much attention to what the other was doing. I kept nagging at him "listen to this man"! It's a rather sad little tune about not being able to compete in somebody elses more attractive, hip, (does anyone use that word anymore?), chic world.
'Alive' was written not long after my friend David passed away and it brought quite a few questions I asked of myself of my own life. In my opinion it is one of my finer moments of songwriting.
'Good Time' is a song I wrote on the way to a gig in the car about going to a strip club for a bucks night and running into a girl I had met before.
'The Valley' is dedicated to one of my favourite places to play. The Grand Hotel in Yarra Glen.
'Sleep' was written just after my boy Cayden was born. It's a very sentimental song to me and I really dig the way it came out.
One of the best parts of recording this EP was getting together with Micky and Carl and laying their tracks down. Both did such a great job and we have been playing in bands together for so many years it felt like it came so naturally. More natural than ever before. I'm excited to have this released and hopefully there is better yet to come! Who knows... 'Last Drinks' is not called just yet. |
